Jemma Kennedy

 

is a novelist, playwright and screenwriter. Her first novel ‘Skywalking’ was published in 2003 and she has been writing for the stage since 2004. She was awarded a Jerwood Arvon Young Playwright’s Apprenticeship in 2006 and was Pearson Playwright in residence at the National Theatre in 2010.

 

Recent plays include ‘The Prince and the Pauper’ (Unicorn Theatre 2012), ‘The Grand Irrationality’ (Lost Theatre Studio, Los Angeles 2012), ‘Don’t Feed the Animals’ (National Theatre Connections 2013), and ‘The Summer Book’, adapted from the novel by Tove Jansson (Unicorn Theatre, 2014).

 

Jemma is currently under commission to the National Theatre where she teaches playwriting and has recently devised their New Views online playwriting course for young writers.

 

Jemma’s first feature film, ‘The Greatest Englishman’ (Marathon Films, director Justin Hardy) is in post-production.

 

She is currently writing her second feature, ‘Frozen’ (Wellcome Trust development award) for director Amanda Boyle, and is shortly to adapt Barbara Pym’s novel ‘Excellent Women’ for the BBC and Raindog Films.
